Child Safety.
We built Discover.d with child safety at the centre. Not as an afterthought.
Our commitment.
Discover.d exists to give talented young athletes a professional presence and a fair chance at being seen. Most of the athletes on our platform are under 18. That means child safety is not a compliance checkbox for us. It is a core part of how we design and build everything.
We made deliberate decisions from the very first line of code to ensure that no young athlete on Discover.d is ever put at risk. Here is exactly what we do and why.
How we protect young athletes.
No direct contact between adults and minors
When a club, coach, agent or brand expresses interest in an athlete, their request comes directly to us. We personally review every single one. We decide whether it is legitimate. Only then do we make an introduction. No stranger ever gets a direct line to a young athlete or their family through our platform. That is a design decision, not an accident.
Parent or guardian required for all under-18 profiles
Every profile for an athlete under 18 must be submitted and managed by a parent or guardian. All communications go to the parent or guardian's email address. The athlete's own contact details are never collected or exposed.
Personal data never shown publicly
Email addresses, dates of birth and contact details are never shown on any public profile. Our database is built so these fields are technically inaccessible to anyone who is not our internal team. We had this independently verified before launch.
Explicit consent for photos and video
We ask for separate, specific consent before publishing any photo or video content. The consent clearly states what is shown, where it is hosted, and how to request removal. For athletes under 13, a parent or guardian must provide this consent. Anyone can request removal of their content at any time by contacting hello@discoverd.co and we will action it within 72 hours.
Location kept broad
Public profiles show county and nationality only. No street address, no school name, no precise location. Broad enough to help scouts find regional talent. Private enough to protect a young athlete's safety.
Report a concern on every profile
Every public athlete profile on Discover.d has a visible Report a Concern link. Anyone who sees something that worries them can report it directly to our team. We review all reports within 24 hours.
For parents.
We know that handing your child's profile to any online platform takes trust. Here is what you are in control of:
You manage the profile. Every communication comes to you. Your child's details are never shared with anyone without your knowledge. You can request that your child's profile, photos or video are removed at any time by emailing hello@discoverd.co. We will action it within 72 hours, no questions asked.
If you have any concerns at all, please contact us directly. We are a small team and we read every message personally.
See something that concerns you?
If you see anything on Discover.d that concerns you about a young athlete's safety, please report it immediately. All reports are reviewed by our team within 24 hours. If you believe a child is in immediate danger, please contact the emergency services.
Report a ConcernWhat we are still building.
We launched with the safety features above in place from day one. We are also working on the following, which we will add as the platform grows:
- A formal Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) covering all under-18 data including photos and video, to be completed within our first month of operation.
- A documented Children's Risk Assessment as required under the Online Safety Act 2023.
- An age split dashboard so we always know how many athletes on our platform are under 13, 13 to 17, and 18 or over.
- Native video hosting on the platform so we are not reliant on third party platforms like YouTube for content featuring minors.
We will update this page as each item is completed.
